Printer doesn't answer - that's why
"Your printer does not answer" - these or similar error messages can quickly drive any user to a blaze. In this article we show you the most common problems and the appropriate solutions.
Printer is offline or in standby mode
- After a certain period of time, many printers go into standby mode to save energy. Many devices hide or dim their display in this state.
- If there is no display, there is usually a flashing light on the switch-on button.
- In this case, simply restart your printer or end the standby mode by pressing the power button.
Printer has no connection
- The error message "The printer is not responding" usually indicates that your printer is installed correctly but cannot be controlled by the PC. This indicates a faulty connection.
- For this reason, check your connection to the printer. If your USB connection is up and the problem persists, your USB cable may need to be replaced.
- A restart of your router is recommended for WLAN connections.
Faulty printer driver
If the error message still occurs after the steps described above, there is usually a problem with the printer driver. Here's how to either update or reinstall your driver:
- Open the control panels of your PC.
- Click on the "Hardware and Sound" entry and then on the "Device Manager" link.
- Your PC will now list all of your drivers by category. Now expand the "Printer Queues" category.
- Right click on the faulty printer, select "Update Driver Software" and start searching for an update for your driver.
- If an update is found, install it and restart your PC to make the changes effective.
- If this solution does not work, select "Uninstall" instead of "Update driver software" in Device Manager and restart your PC as well.
