Printer: Find out the IP address
To access your printer over the network, you need its IP address. In this practical tip, we will tell you how to find this IP.
Printer IP address via device management
One option to find the IP address of your printer is the device management of a computer from the network.
- The fastest way for Windows users is the "Devices and Printers" menu. Open the Windows search, enter "Printer" and the menu will be suggested.
- Here you can see all installed printers. Right click on the correct printer and select Printer Properties.
- In the "General" tab, the address is now often given under Location.
Find the IP address directly on the printer
In addition to general settings, many printers with LCD displays also offer system information.
- Information such as the IP address is often hidden in this system information.
- Where exactly is different from device to device and is usually in the instructions.
- In general, you should look for a menu item like "Network", possibly as a sub-item of "Settings" or "Information" or something similar.
Find the IP address via the router
Your router also knows the printer's IP address, where you can find it exactly, but differs from model to model.
- Control the router with a computer in the network, usually via the IP address 192.168.1.1. See your router's instructions for detailed instructions.
- You will be asked for login data, which you can also find in the instructions or have set yourself.
- Now look for the list of all devices connected to the router. This is often a DHCP table, often in an area called "Local Area Network", "LAN" or something similar.
The printer must be online before you can print. Next we will explain how to bring an offline printer online.
