Change printer drum - that's how it works at Brother
You must change the Brother printer's drum regularly so that the sheet does not stay white one day. Before printing, a laser writes all of the contents of the page onto the surface of the drum, which then comes into contact with the toner. The toner powder sticks to the drum and is then printed on the sheet. If this no longer works, you have to change the drum.
Change printer drum: How to recognize the right time
These criteria give you an indication that you should change the printer drum:
- The printer puts gray stripes on the white paper.
- Images and graphics are printed with clear stripes and / or no longer sharp.
- The printer itself displays a warning that the drum should be changed.
How to change the printer drum for Brother printers
Note that on some compact devices, the toner and drum are connected to each other and can only be replaced together. By the way, when buying a new drum, you can save money with third-party drums.
- Before removing the drum, you should put an old cloth next to the printer, as there may still be toner particles on the drum.
- Turn on the computer and printer, and make sure that the "DRUM" indicator on the printer is flashing. Then open the printer cover.
- Then keep the "OK" button pressed for around 5 seconds until all the LEDs light up. Then you can pull out the drum. If toner particles get on your hands, wash them off immediately.
- Then unpack the new drum and push it into the printer until it clicks into place. Many models also have a small lever (usually blue) that then lifts.
- If the drum is seated and no message appears on the computer, you can close the cover.
Once the cover is closed, the DRUM LED should stop blinking. If not, you will need to reset the printer drum. We have provided the current Brother device driver for you to download.
