Reset printer drum - that's how it works at Brother
You should reset the Brother printer drum counter if the printer does not recognize the new drum and displays error messages. It is typical that the "DRUM" lamp flashes. We explain step by step exactly how to proceed.
Brother MFC and DCP: Reset printer drum correctly
Note: Only carry out the following instructions for a new or renewed printer drum. In the worst case, old drum units can damage the printer.
- First press the "Menu" button on the printer and use the arrow buttons to switch to "Machine Info".
- Select this menu item with "OK" and use the arrow keys to select the "Reset menu". Confirm again with "OK".
- Navigate with the arrows to "Drum", confirm with "OK" and enter a [1].
- Finally, press "Stop" to complete the process.
- Depending on the printer model, you will now see a brief confirmation.
Reset the printer drum on Brother HL models
- On HL models, press the [+] key until you reach "Machine info" and confirm with "OK".
- Then navigate with the [+] key to "Lifetime resetting" and press "OK" here too.
- Now use the [+] key to find the "Drum unit" entry and confirm again with "OK".
- The drum is then reset.
