Printer feeds paper wrong - it could be because of that
If your printer feeds the paper skewed, it can cause a paper jam. We show you how the problem arises and what you can do about it.
Printer feeds paper skewed - you can do that
There are a number of reasons why your printer is feeding paper skewed. These can usually be fixed quickly and do not cause any major delays:
- Paper: Check that the paper is in order and that there is no kink in the compartment provided. No sheets should look out of the stack. Before loading the paper in the tray, align the stack accordingly and close the tray without jerky movements.
- Feeder: The paper feeder may be blocked. You can recognize this from the guide rails for the paper. For printers with adjustable feed sizes, the rails may not be properly aligned after changing the size, but crooked.
- Paper insert: Always insert the paper stack according to the instructions in the operating instructions. In most printers there is also a small sketch on the bottom of the paper tray for better orientation. The stack should be relatively close to the guide rails, but not touch them directly. If the rails jam the stack, the paper may skew or not feed at all.
- Vertical feed: Some printers have a vertical paper feed. With these, you should make sure that the paper stack is inserted exactly perpendicular to the printer. Check the attached paper support - this must also be attached vertically to prevent it from being pulled in at an angle.
- Rolling: The paper is fed through rollers. These can be worn or smeared in different ways and thus cause them to be drawn in crookedly. Check the rollers and replace them if necessary or try to clean the rollers.
