Printer cartridge dried up - what to do?
Do you think your printer cartridge has dried up? In this practical tip we give you tips on how to get the printer cartridge fit again.
Protect the print cartridge from drying out
If your printer will not be used for a long time, use the following methods to protect your printer from dry ink cartridges.
- Print a test page regularly. At least once a month. So you should be on the safe side.
- If you are concerned about forgetting to print the test page, you can remove the print cartridge from the printer. Wrap the print cartridge in foil and keep it in the fridge. However, this method is rather cumbersome.

- Some printers offer methods in their software to clean the printhead. Try over it, let the printhead clean several times if necessary. The chances that your print cartridge will liquefy again are not bad.
- You can usually find your printer's cleaning settings when you open a document to be printed. Go to "Print"> "Properties". Depending on the printer type, go to "Maintenance", for example. Sometimes, however, print manufacturers also offer cleaning software to be installed separately.
- Of course, the ink consumption is high in the above method. As an alternative, you can remove the cartridge from the device and clean the print head with a damp cloth or cotton swab. Use warm water, but no additives of cleaning agents!
