Extend DSL cable - how it works
If your DSL cable to the router is too short, you can extend it. In this article we explain what you need and what you need to pay attention to.
Extend DSL cable as desired
No matter which router you buy, the included DSL cable is usually very short. If your device is far away from the telephone jack, this can lead to problems. With a few tricks, you can extend your cable.
- You either use a completely new, longer cable or an adapter that extends your original DSL cable. You can get a new, interference-free DSL cable with a length of 15 meters, for example, for around 10 euros.
- However, a cable extension is usually cheaper. The technology manufacturer Hama, for example, offers an extension with 10 meters for around 4 euros.
- In principle, there are no limits to the length of your DSL cable and the number of extensions. However, please note that frequent cable extensions can lead to interference signals. These then show up in connection breaks or reduced speed when surfing.
- If you want to be on the safe side, you can use a completely new DSL cable of the desired length.
