DSL router: Forgot password - what to do?
This guide shows you what you can do if you forget the password of your DSL router.
Forgot password for DSL router
- Usually the (standard) password of your DSL router is on the back. You can usually find it on the sticker under the item "Device password". If you have never changed your router password, you can use this password.
- However, if you have chosen your own password and forgotten it, the password on the back does not help either. In this case, you should perform a hardware reset.
- Most routers have a reset button that you have to hold down for around five seconds. With some devices, the button has to be pressed for much longer.
- You can then use the password with which the router was delivered. As described in step 1, this is usually located on the back of the device.
- You can then configure your router using the browser. In our detailed instructions, we show you how this works for Speedport and Fritzbox routers.
In the next practical tip we will show you how you can change your WiFi password.
