The two major DSL providers Vodafone and Telekom are vying for new customers with new offers. Our overview shows you whether Vodafone or Telekom has the better offer.
Telekom or Vodafone: DSL quality in comparison
- Basically, Deutsche Telekom has greater coverage. In some regions where Vodafone does not have its own lines, Vodafone rents the lines from Deutsche Telekom.
- For this, Vodafone requires the customer to pay the so-called regional surcharge of five euros, which the company must then transfer to Telekom.
- The speed offered by the two DSL providers differs from region to region, so a general statement about the quality cannot be made.
- With the availability test from Telekom and Vodafone, you can test what Internet speed is offered by you.
Vodafone: Comparison of complete DSL packages
Vodafone and Telekom offer complete DSL packages. At Telekom this means Magenta 1, at Vodafone GigaKombi.
- At Vodafone you can choose between the GigaKombi with the basic mobile tariff and the one with the Red mobile tariff. You get DSL, landline, mobile and HD TV in one contract.
- With the GigaKombi you always get an Internet flat rate with up to 400 Mbit / s for download, a telephone flat rate in the German landline network and up to 40 channels in HD including a digital HD video recorder.
- You can choose a suitable mobile phone contract and get it at a special price. If you choose the Basic tariff, you only pay 24 euros in the first twelve months, in the following 12 months you pay 48.98 euros. The Red tariffs are correspondingly more expensive.
The Telekom DSL packages
- With Magenta 1, Telekom differentiates between S, M and L. However, you only get one SIM card at a time. All three variants include a landline and mobile flat rate for at home and an allnet flat rate and LTE for on the go.
- The smallest variant offers 16 MBit / s and 1 GB LTE as DSL speed and for on the go. It costs about 37 euros in the first 12 months, after that it is 52 euros. With the two larger versions, you will receive the Entertain television service from Deutsche Telekom.
- Magenta 1 M offers DSL with 50 MBit / s and 3 GB LTE for 56 euros in the first twelve months, afterwards 76 euros.
- The largest variant costs 70 euros in the first twelve months, after which the price rises to 95 euros. It contains 100 Mbit / s and 6 GB LTE.
Vodafone or Telekom: DSL offers in comparison
Both DSL providers have three tariffs with a two-year term in their program, which differ primarily in terms of upload speeds and price. Both providers offer a landline flat rate in all packages and optional internet TV for 10 euros per month.
- The smallest package at Telekom Magenta is called S. It gives you DSL with 16 MBit / s in download and 2.4 MBit / s in upload at a price of around 20 euros for the first 12 months, then 35 euros.
- Vodafone also offers 16 MBit / s in download with DSL 16, but only 1 MBit / s in upload. The tariff costs only 20 euros in the first 24 months, then 30 euros.
- With Magenta at home M, Telekom offers 50 MBit / s in download and a whopping 10 MBit / s in upload. 20 euros per month are due in the first 12 months, then 40 euros thereafter.
- At Vodafone, you pay 20 euros for the same speeds for downloading and uploading in the first 12 months, after which 35 euros are charged. Special feature: You can switch to the cheaper tariff free of charge after 12 months.
- Telekom's largest tariff offers 100 MBit / s in the down and 40 MBit / s in the upload. The whole thing costs 20 euros in the first 12 months, then 45 euros.
- At Vodafone you get the same speeds for a very reasonable 20 euros in the first 12 months, then you pay 40 euros. Here, too, you can switch to the cheaper tariff after 12 months.
Vodafone or Telekom: conclusion
- Vodafone's DSL offering is consistently cheaper at the same speeds as Telekom. Telekom can only score with a faster upload rate in the lowest tariff.
- However, please note that Vodafone may add the regional surcharge of 5 euros. This is only shown during the ordering process.
