Announcements at IKEA: that's behind the secret codes
When shopping in an Ikea department store, you may have heard strange announcements. These are codes that are only intended for employees.
Announcements at Ikea - that is behind the codes
The furniture giant Ikea itself does not disclose what is behind the coded announcements. However, there are some hints for decryption on the net.
- Code 500: This means that a child has disappeared from childcare. If parents have lost sight of their child while shopping, a call is usually made to all customers instead of a code to look for the child.
- Code 1000: This code is a previously unconfirmed alarm. If this code is repeated, the employees prepare for the evacuation of the customers. If the code 1000 sounds the third time, the shop is evacuated.
- Lucky Luke: With this announcement, the employees are informed that additional cash registers or the goods issue have to be staffed, since the number of customers is currently particularly high.
- Code 300: With the announcement in connection with the naming of a department, the employees know that a customer has been injured there. However, a first responder or doctor is now called out should it be necessary. After all, Ikea visitors can also make an important contribution here if they are trained accordingly.
Old or questionable Ikea codes
There are also other codes circulating on the net, which, however, are probably not used, at least in Germany.
- Code 17: This announcement only means that one of the employees has to go to the toilet briefly.
- Code 88: This code is issued in connection with a department. Supposedly, it means that employees should do some cleaning or repair there.
- Code 89: With this coding, additional forces are ordered to accept the goods if there is a lot of traffic.
- Pippi Longstocking: If you hear the announcement "Pippi Longstocking" in the kitchen department, you don't have to look for a girl with red braids there. Rather, this code instructs security personnel to go there. The reason for this can be shoplifting, for example.
