Showering without tiles - you should know that
You can design bathrooms and showers without the usual tiles. In this article you will find out which alternatives there are and where the advantages and disadvantages of such a shower are.
Designing showers without tiles - there are these options
A bathroom is usually tiled. This applies especially to the shower area. Tiles are waterproof and therefore ideally suited for the shower area.
- Walk-in shower cubicles are increasingly being used in modern bathrooms. These areas are often designed without tiles.
- There are different ways to get the shower walls waterproof. By the way, latex paint is not a good idea in this context.
- Because latex paint only repels water to a certain degree. It is therefore not 100 percent waterproof. Over time, water can accumulate behind the paint, causing mold to form on the wall.
- If you want to do without tiles in the shower, there are better solutions than latex. One option is to use glass that is placed in front of the wall.
- Another alternative is to fill the wall with synthetic resin. This material is not only very durable, but also waterproof. Since synthetic resin is available in different colors, you have many design options.
- If you use large Respatex wall panels, you can also do without tiles in the shower.
- Wallpaper is also an option for the shower. In order for the wall covering to be waterproof, painting with elephant skin in several layers is necessary.
Advantages and disadvantages of alternative wall coverings
Showers are waterproof if the tiles have been professionally installed
- The weak points are clearly the joints. Mold can form here. This is not the case with the alternatives that we mentioned in the first section.
- However, these options are just as vulnerable as a tiled shower in terms of connections. The corners as well as the water connections must be sealed.
- A tile-less shower is somewhat more sensitive in these areas. For this reason, the work must be carried out by professionals.
- Since you can do little by yourself, the costs for a shower without tiles are correspondingly higher.
- This does not only apply to the handicraft costs. The materials are also a lot more expensive than normal tiles.
