Set up DVB-T - you need it
If your TV does not have an integrated DVB-T receiver, you can also connect and set it up externally. We'll show you how it's done.
Attention: DVB-T2 replaces DVB-T
From March 29th, 2017 DVB-T2 replaces the old DVB-T. To be able to watch TV again after the transition, you must do the following:
- First, the hardware has to be adjusted. For the new DVB-T2 you need either a suitable TV or a DVB-T2 receiver. You can read more about the hardware in our article on DVB-T2.
- If you have connected the right hardware correctly, you can start a new channel search from March 29, 2017 at around 12 noon. This is the only way to save the new HD channels on your receiver or television. How this works for common TVs, read these instructions:
- LG TV: Start channel search
- Samsung TV: Start channel search
- Sony Bravia TV: Start channel search
- Philips TV: Start channel search
- Panasonic TV: Start channel search
DVB-T2 comes to Germany: you have to pay attention to that
Setting up DVB-T: These things are needed
- Receiver: There are numerous DVB-T receivers for a lot and little money. The devices differ mainly only in the additional functions such as USB connections or a recording function. The following DVB-T receiver is currently the most popular on Amazon and, at around 35 euros, belongs to the affordable middle class.
- Antenna: The different receivers differ more in the equipment than in the reception quality. The main thing here is the antenna, which you shouldn't save on. The following DVB-T antenna is not the cheapest with around 14 euros, but according to reviews delivers a solid and reliable performance.
- Cable: For connection to the TV, you can choose between a Scart and an HDMI connection for most devices. Here you should go with the times and use an HDMI cable. You can get this for just a few euros.
- Setup: Setting up DVB-T couldn't be simpler. Connect the receiver to the power, connect it to your TV via Scart or HDMI. Once you have connected the antenna to the receiver, you can switch on your television. Switch to the correct connection and follow the further instructions on the screen.
In the next practical tip, we will show you exactly where the difference between DVB-T and DVB-T2 lies.
