Import DVD to iTunes - Here's how
If you want to import your DVDs into iTunes so that you can watch your films on the go on the iPad or iPhone, you need an additional program. This is necessary in order to be able to save the DVD on your PC. You can also save copy-protected DVDs on your computer.
Save DVDs with Freemake Video Converter
With this free program, you can easily save DVDs in numerous formats on your computer. Since the program is completely free, the installation offers several toolbars and additional functions, which you do not need, however. Follow the individual steps, install only what you want:
- Download the Freemake Video Converter and start the installation file.
- Remove the check mark on the first page and click on "Next".
- Select the second point here, the "User-defined installation" and remove all three ticks and click "Next" again.
- In the next step you select the item "I do not accept".
- Then decide again for a "user-defined installation" and remove the check mark from "Browser Plugins".
- In the next two steps, just click on "Next".
How to use the Freemake Video Converter
Once you have installed and started the program, click on the "DVD" button above (see picture).
- A new window opens in which you click on "Computer" and select the drive in which the DVD is located.
- Depending on the DVD, you must now select which files you want to save. There is usually only one file for films, for series you have to click on each episode individually. Confirm your selection with OK".
- Now select either "in AVI" or "in MP4" below. It doesn't matter which of the two formats you use, iTunes will play both. If you want to watch the DVD later on a mobile Apple device, select "for Apple". There you will find the optimal video settings for each Apple device.
- If you have now decided on one of the variants, select the desired item. There you can now choose which video quality you would like to have. If there are no special requests, you can leave the already selected item "as source file" unchanged.
- Now click on the blue "Convert" button and the DVD will be saved on your desktop.
- To do this, start iTunes.
- Open the menu at the top left and select the item "Add file to library" or use the shortcut "Ctrl" + "O".
- Now you can select the previously saved video file and click on "Open". Now you have imported your DVD into iTunes. You can watch them there and transfer them to your mobile devices.
