Connect DVD player to TV - how it works
If you want to connect your DVD player to the TV, all you need is the correct cable and the appropriate input. We show you the individual steps in this guide.
Connect DVD player to TV - the right cable
- HDMI: All newer DVD players have an HDMI connection. The image is transmitted via HDMI in HD or even in 4K resolution if your TV set supports it. If no cable was supplied, you can get a 1-meter cable for around 5 euros on Amazon.
- Scart: If you still have a somewhat older DVD player, it usually has a much larger Scart connection. The picture quality only corresponds to the SD standard, even if you insert a DVD in HD. High-quality scart cables cost around 7 euros on Amazon.
- Note: Both cable types are relatively sensitive and should therefore not be changed too often. In addition, HDMI cables break easily when rolled up frequently.
Connect DVD player to TV - the right input
- Once you have connected the DVD player to the television, you only have to make the correct settings on the television.
- Most remote controls have a button labeled "Source". For the reception via HDMI simply select "HDMI", for the Scart cable the mode "AV".
- Many TVs have multiple AV and HDMI inputs. If the image remains black on the selected source, try again at another input.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to convert Scart to HDMI.
