DVD player no longer shows a picture - what to do?
If your DVD player no longer shows a picture, you may have made incorrect settings on the television. Another cause could be a defective cable. We'll show you how to test and fix the various causes.
1. Check cable from DVD player to TV
First check whether the image transmission cable of your DVD player is properly seated on both sides. With older devices, the image is usually transmitted via Scart cable, with modern devices you have to look for an HDMI cable.
- First test whether the cable on your DVD player is properly seated.
- Once you have checked this, look on the back of your TV to see whether the cable is also plugged in here.
- If necessary, first pull out the cable and plug it in again - many TVs will then automatically switch to this channel.
2. DVD player shows no picture: Check the channel on the TV
Typically, televisions have multiple channels to display images from different devices. Test whether you have selected the correct channel on your TV:
- First open the menu of your TV.
- Go to the image settings in the menu and search for "input channel", "signal source" or similar.
- If you have connected your DVD player via HDMI, click through the various HDMI inputs one after the other.
- If you have connected your DVD player via Scart cable, select the respective Scart channels one after the other.
Still no picture: New cable for the DVD player
If the cable is properly seated and the settings are correct, the cable is probably defective. Use another cable to connect your DVD player to the TV.
- If your DVD player and TV have different inputs, you should test a different cable type.
- If your devices only offer one input type, you only have to test a new cable.
