There are various ways to clean CDs and DVDs. Tips are not inappropriate. That is why we have put together the most useful tricks for you to get your discs clean again.
Useful tips for cleaning DVDs and CDs
- You should always use a lint-free cloth, such as a microfiber cloth, for basic cleaning of CDs or DVDs. To prevent scratches when cleaning, you should always slightly dampen the cloth with water.
- Alternatively, you can also clean the disc by hand under running water. Use cold water and do not apply firm pressure when wiping over it.
- Never clean the CD or DVD in the reading direction, that is to say in a circle! This could result in micro scratches destroying the reading track in such a way that the disc can no longer be read properly. Therefore, always clean the inside of the CD without applying too much pressure.
- If stains cannot be removed with a damp microfiber cloth, you can use detergent or window cleaner.
- After cleaning, gently pat the disc dry with a lint-free cloth. Alternatively, you can air dry the CD or DVD. But never put the disc directly in the sun or on a radiator! A CD must never be placed in the dishwasher either.
Tip: If your CDs or DVDs are scratched, toothpaste can work wonders! To do this, gently rub the toothpaste generously over the disc. After a short exposure time, clean the disc under running water with your finger. Then gently wipe the disc dry with a cloth.
