Install DVD codes for Ubuntu
Before you can play a DVD, you have to install the appropriate codecs.
- Copy the following command: sudo apt-get install libdvdcss libdvdread4 libdvdnav4
- Open the console and paste the code. To do this, simultaneously press the [CTRL] + [SHIFT] + [V] keys.
- If you confirm the command with [Enter], you will be asked for your Ubuntu password. After successful entry, the codecs are installed.
- Alternatively, you can also use the software center to install the LibDVDCSS, LibDVDRead4 and LiebDVDNav4 packages one after the other.
Play a DVD on Ubuntu
- With the codecs installed, all you have to do is start a player.
- The VLC Media Player is highly recommended. Open the dashboard and search for VLC. If it is not yet installed, you can download the VLC Media Player for Linux.
- If you search for "Totem" in the dashboard you will find the Totem Media Player. You can also use it to play DVDs.
