E-ink display: what does that mean?
An e-ink display is an eye-friendly screen. The importance of an e-ink display is essential, especially for e-book readers, because no other display can read documents so well - especially over a longer period of time.
eBook reader with e-ink display
Almost all newer eBook readers use an e-ink display. This was specially developed for reading text, as a conventional LCD display is too tiring for the eyes in the long run.
- In the meantime, many e-ink displays are even so good that the pin sharp writing can be read more easily from the display than from conventional paper, which is particularly helpful for people with visual impairments.
- A decisive factor for the eye-friendliness of the E-Ink display is the lack of flickering, which is more or less common with other displays. Since the e-ink display ultimately shows a static image, there is no constant image structure. The e-book reader only loads a new page when a page is "turned over".
- Static behavior means that eBook readers such as Kindle Paperwhite also consume significantly less battery power than, for example, tablets or smartphones.
- In addition, the viewing angle dependency on an e-ink display is almost completely eliminated. No matter how you look at the display, the page is always equally legible. So you can also browse while lying down.
- Another advantage of the E-Ink display is the lack of reflection on the display, since considerably fewer contrasts have to be shown. This means that carefree reading in the great outdoors or in the event of unfavorable light is also possible.
