Set up email account in Outlook Express
You can set up an email account quickly in "Outlook Express" or its successor "Windows Live Mail". We'll show you how it works.
Set up an email account with Outlook Express or Windows Mail
When Outlook Express is started for the first time, a wizard is automatically started with which you can set up your email account step by step. For more accounts, click on the "Tools" menu and select "Accounts". Click on "Add" to create a new mail account:
- Follow the wizard's instructions. Name, email address, server and password are required.
- If you do not know the email server, you will find the right data here.
- Then just enter your user name and password and confirm.
SMTP authentication and SSL connection
Some mail providers (e.g. Googlemail) offer a secure connection using, for example, SSL encryption. The "Outlook Express" or "Windows Mail" wizard does not ask for these settings, which is why you have to set them up later.
- To do this, click on "Tools" in the menu bar and then on "Accounts".
- A window opens with your configured email accounts. Double-click the desired account.
- If your email provider requires SMTP authentication, check the "Server requires authentication" box in the "Server" tab.
- You can set up an SSL connection in the "Advanced" tab. (see the screenshot)
