Easy Mesh: Everything important about the WLAN standard explained in simple terms
The new WLAN standard "Easy Mesh" should finally allow the routers of the different manufacturers to cooperate with each other. In this practical tip, we explain what is important to know about Easy Mash.
Easy Mesh: What can the WLAN standard do?
If you want to expand the home network consisting of LAN and WLAN, you can use a repeater or a second router. While using a repeater has been possible for years without problems, a second router often causes problems.
- Some manufacturers have been offering mesh router systems for a long time. In order to connect two routers to each other, they usually have to come from the same manufacturer.
- The Wi-Fi Alliance now provides a remedy with the new "Easy Mesh" standard. This uniform standard enables every router to cooperate with every other router.
Does Easy Mesh have a future?
In theory, Easy Mesh sounds excellent. In practice, however, the standard could quickly sink into insignificance.
- The manufacturers of the routers are not obliged to support the new standard. They have little interest in that.
- So far, no manufacturer has announced support. It is hoped that soon a manufacturer will venture into the venture and others will follow suit.
- If your router already has a mesh function, it can - at least in theory - also receive the new Easy Mesh standard via update.
In the next practical tip, we will explain to you how exactly a router works.
