With eau de parfum, eau de toilette and eau de cologne, there are several variants of one and the same fragrance in perfumeries. You can find out what the differences are and how it affects the price in our article.
Quality differences in eau de parfum, eau de toilette and eau de cologne
The fragrance of a perfume is in the composition of the fragrance oils. These are put together and coordinated by the respective perfumer.
- However, the perfume in a perfumery does not consist of the pure fragrance oil. Instead, it is diluted with water and alcohol.
- The lower the concentration of fragrance oils in the finished perfume, the weaker the fragrance intensity. Therefore, you need to apply a larger amount of certain products.
- The lower concentration also lowers the price of the respective perfume.
Eau de Parfum: The highest quality fragrance
Eau de Parfum is also listed as Parfum de Toilette and Esprit de Parfum.
- With 15 to 30 percent of the fragrance oil, eau de parfum has the highest concentration.
- Due to the high concentration, it is very intense in fragrance. So it is best to use it sparingly to avoid a "fragrance cloud".
- The smell of this high-quality variant evaporates very slowly and you can still feel it on your skin days later.
Eau de toilette is perfect for everyday life
In the eau de toilette variant, the ingredients differ in part compared to eau de parfum.
- The concentration of the eau de toilette variant is 6-10 percent. In addition to this, the heart note of the fragrance is sometimes changed to give it a fresher character.
- The scent is light, which is why you can use it more generously than with the eau de parfum.
- To make a perfume last longer, apply it to warm parts of the body.
- Eau de Toilette is suitable for everyday use as well as for the evening.
The volatile variant: Eau de Cologne
Eau de Cologne is translated as "Cologne water" and the fragrance was actually created in 1709 by the Italian Johann Maria Farina in Cologne.
- With 3-5 percent of fragrance oils, Eau de Cologne is a very light fragrance variant.
- The fragrance is very volatile and is mainly suitable as refreshing water for in between.
