Become an Ebay dealer - Instructions and information
If you want to become an eBay dealer, you must first make some account settings. You can find out what else you should consider here.
Become an eBay dealer: Create an account correctly
In order to appear as an eBay dealer in the future, you need a commercial eBay account. To do this, visit the eBay website and register as an entrepreneur. Alternatively, you can also convert your previous, private account into a commercial one. However, if you want to continue shopping privately on eBay, a strict separation of private and commercial activities is advisable. Otherwise, proceed as follows:
- Log in and go to "My eBay"
- Select the "eBay account" tab and go to "Personal data"
- Under the heading »Member name and password« you will find the item »Account type«. By clicking on "Edit" you can convert your member account into a commercial one.
Become an eBay dealer and post items
Selling items as an eBay dealer works like a private seller. You can click on "Sell" in the top menu and set your goods. As a commercial seller, you also have to meet a number of information requirements in order to operate within the legal framework:
- You must provide commercial offers with a provider identification and the return policy. You can store these in your account settings under "Settings for commercial sellers" so that they are automatically added to every offer.
- You have to grant your buyers the statutory right of withdrawal and return.
- General terms and conditions (AGB) are not mandatory for eBay traders, but advisable. They ensure trust and security on both sides.
Additional obligations if you become an eBay dealer
In addition to these settings on eBay, you should keep in mind that you, as a commercial eBay trader, must tax all income. This also applies if you are a part-time eBay dealer and only generate low sales. You should note, among other things:
- You have to register a business with your city's regulatory or trade office. Depending on the municipality, the trade license costs between 20 and 60 euros. After that, a message is automatically sent to the tax office responsible for you.
- As a self-employed eBay dealer, you have to prepare an annual tax return.
- Your income is generally subject to income, sales and trade tax. However, there are tax breaks, so the amount of your sales decides whether and how much you will pay taxes.
