eBay or DaWanda: comparison of sales platforms
In this practical tip we compare eBay with DaWanda for you. Do you own something you want to sell and are you looking for the right sales platform? We show you the advantages and disadvantages of the two online shops.
eBay - Easily sell new and used items
Both used and new products are sold or auctioned on eBay. If you post an item, you have the choice between an auction or a fixed sales amount. Auctions are often chosen with the intention of making the highest possible profit, with the risk of lower sales value. For those who do not want to take the risk of an auction, an immediate sale for a certain amount is recommended. We show you the other special features of selling on eBay:
- Buyers: Your products are bought by other eBay users on eBay, eBay itself acts as an intermediary.
- Costs: A user account on eBay is generally free of charge. In the case of a sale, however, there are listing fees, fees for possible photos and a sales fee that are based on the amount of the sales price.
- Products: You can sell used and new products on eBay. You can post a picture of your item along with a description text to highlight your item.
- Sale and payment: As mentioned at the beginning, you can choose between an auction, with or without a starting bid, or an immediate sale. The offer will be placed under your user name. As the seller, you specify the payment method, for example a payment with PayPal. Accordingly, you will receive your money from the buyer as soon as the auction has ended or the immediate purchase has been made. DaWanda - sales platform for handmade products
In contrast to a sale on eBay, you can only sell handmade products on DaWanda. You can sell your products as a private person or as a company. At DaWanda you create your own "shop" in which you offer and sell your products - there is no possibility of an auction.
- Buyers: You sell directly to DaWanda users. Here, too, the website only acts as an intermediary between seller and buyer.
- Costs: A user account is also free on DaWanda. If your product is sold, however, there is no 5% commission on the selling price to DaWanda. Depending on the product, you also have to pay a setting fee of 10 to 30 cents.
- Products: You can only sell products made on DaWanda. But you can also post restored or revised products for sale.
- Sale and Payment: You sell your products in your own "Shop" on DaWanda. If a user is interested in your product, you will receive a purchase request. Before the sale is completed, you have to confirm it. Then tell the buyer the payment method and you will receive your money within 7 days.
