eBook: These file formats dominate Kindle, iPad and Co
You always have your favorite books with you on your handy eBook reader. This practical tip tells you which file formats the different readers support.
eBook: These file formats are supported
- Amazon Kindle: The market leader Amazon Kindle can process and open the file formats AZW, TXT, images (i.e. JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP), PD, HTML and Mobipocket (i.e. PRC and MOBI).
- The Tolino Shine supports the formats EPUB and ACSM, PDF, TXT and Adobe DRM. Unfortunately, Amazon (AZW) books cannot be opened.
- You can also read eBooks on the iPad. The tablet supports the formats EPUB, PDF, Apple's own iBooks format, using the Amazon Kindle app AZW and Barnes & Noble with the associated app.
- The formats EPUB and PDF are common formats for almost all eBook readers, including Android. Simple TXT files can also be opened.
- Note: Unfortunately, not all readers support the DOC format from Microsoft Word. Therefore, find out beforehand whether your reader supports this format.
