Ebook Reader: Tolino Tab vs. Kindle Fire HDX
There is a lot of choice on the ebook reader market. With the Tolino Tab 7 and the Kindle Fire HDX 7, we would like to introduce two models that also have tablet qualities thanks to the Android operating system. Mail order company Amazon stands behind the Kindle Fire HDX. The Tolino Tab 7 is a joint production of the booksellers Thalia, Weltbild, Hugendubel, Club Bertelsmann and Deutsche Telekom.
Kindle or Tolino: comparison of technical data
- Screen size: Both readers have a screen size of 7 inches (17 cm) and both are also available in an 8.9 inch version.
- Storage capacity: In the Tolino Tab you have 16 GB of storage and 25 GB of cloud storage available, but you can expand it with a micro SD card by up to 64 GB. The Kindle Fire is available with 16, 32 or 64 GB.
- Display resolution: In terms of resolution, the Kindle Fire is clearly ahead with 1, 920 x 1, 200 pixels (323 pixels per inch). The Tolino tablet is only 1, 440 x 900 pixels (243 pixels per inch).
- Battery life: According to the manufacturer, the Tolino should last 12 hours with a fully charged battery and the Kindle Fire 11 hours (17 hours in reading mode).
- Processor and RAM: While the Tolino uses a quad-core processor with 1.6 gigahertz and one gigabyte of RAM, the Kindle uses a quad-core with 2.2 GHz and two gigabytes.
- Internet: There is only WLAN in the Tolino for the Internet connection. With Kindle, you can also opt for a version with mobile Internet and even LTE (for an additional charge).
App stores and other purchase criteria
In addition to all the technical data, it is of course also decisive what other advantages the different tablets bring:
- Operating system: The Tolino Tab runs on Android 4.2.2 and can therefore also access the Google Play Store. In addition to the ebooks, you also have a large selection of apps. The Kindle Fire is also Android-based, but can only load apps from Amazon. This practical tip shows you how you can still use the apps from the Playstore with a little trick.
- Size / Weight: If you like to take your ebook with you when you are on the go, size and weight are also decisive, although there are no serious differences between these two models. Kindle is 9 mm, 0.6 mm thinner than the Tolino Tab and weighs 303 grams, about 30 grams less.
- Parental controls: Amazon has installed the "FreeTime" parental controls in the new Kindle. This allows you to specify exactly which of your children can access which content.
