EC card expired - you have to do that
If your EC card has expired, you will normally receive a new card from your bank before the expiry date. You can read what you can do if the card does not arrive in our practical tip.
EC card expired - so you get a new card
As a rule, a new EC card is sent automatically at least 4 weeks before it expires. If the card does not arrive, you can do the following:
- First consult your bank and ask whether or when the card was sent.
- If it is certain that the new EC card has been lost in the transit, have it blocked immediately.
- Report the card to your bank as missing. You will receive a new EC card including a new PIN number at short notice. The card and the PIN number are sent in two different letters.
- Good to know: Keep an eye on the expiration date of your card. For example, if you are on vacation while the card is expiring, it is automatically blocked and you can neither use it to pay nor withdraw money. Plan in advance and order a new EC card from the bank early if necessary. Various banks may incur fees for this. The best thing to do is to ask your bank advisor.
If you have lost your EC card, you must act quickly here too. Read what you should do in such a case in the next post.
