Debit card withdrawn - you can do that
It is uncomfortable when the EC card is withdrawn - it is then not possible to withdraw money or make cashless payments. We summarize for you how you can get your EC card back as quickly as possible.
When will your EC card be withdrawn?
It is important to keep calm when you come into such a situation. Basically, an ATM only draws a card due to various security mechanisms. Your card will of course not be lost, but will be kept for you. Your card will be withdrawn in the following situations:
- If the PIN is entered incorrectly 3 times, the ATM will automatically withdraw your EC card. This is primarily for security if your card is lost or stolen.
- If you forget your card at the ATM or wait long before you withdraw your card from the machine, it will also withdraw your card. The machine emits three clear beeps shortly before a card is drawn in.
- Another case that leads to the withdrawal of the card is an expired card. In this case, however, you should already have received a new card from your bank.
- In rare cases, cards can also be withdrawn if the bank detects inconsistencies such as overdrafts or the like on the associated account.
How to get your EC card back
If your EC card has been withdrawn, the first step should be to contact your bank. Depending on which ATM withdraws your card and at what time the incident occurs, the following options are available:
- If you have withdrawn money at an ATM in front of or in a bank branch, you will usually get your card relatively quickly. Bank staff can open the ATM in most cases and give you your card. In this case, however, the bank employees must be able to assign the card to you without any doubt. In practice, this means that you must identify yourself with a driver's license or ID card.
- If your card is at a public ATM e.g. For example, if you moved into a mall, you have to do something different. Contact your house bank or the bank from which you received the card. In most cases, your card will be sent to you by post. However, this can take some time.
- Another option is to apply for a new card. This is particularly useful if the old EC card has a short remaining validity period. Depending on your account contract, fees may apply.
