IT skills in the CV: meaning and examples
Nothing works today without IT skills. In order not to get lost in the crowd of applicants, highlight your skills on your resume. We show you what you should pay attention to here.
Clearly indicate IT skills in the curriculum vitae
Applications are quickly looked through these days. If you do not notice, the cancellation will soon be in your mailbox. The employer should be able to quickly see what you have to offer, especially when specifying IT skills. Therefore, above all, indicate what could prove to be an advantage over other applicants.
- Give your IT skills a separate section on your CV.
- Divide your skills into groups such as operating systems, office applications, programming languages, databases or graphics editing. This makes the application clearer.
- Only provide qualifications that you really have. If you only have rudimentary programming knowledge, you should not mention it.
- First enter the knowledge that the employer was looking for in the job advertisement.
- Graduate your knowledge. Be absolutely honest about this. For example, if you have created complete databases from scratch with Microsoft Access, including queries and macros, you can speak of expert knowledge here. However, if you have only made entries in an existing database, this corresponds to basic knowledge.
- If you can show IT training, you should always mention it and also enclose certificates.
- Depending on the requirements of the new position, you can provide more precise information when applying for the required knowledge. For example, indicate that you have been using Photoshop for five years and are familiar with retouching and masks.
Examples of IT skills in your CV
If IT skills play a particularly important role in your application, you should allow the information appropriate details without using descriptions that are too long. All information should always be listed one below the other.
- Less important knowledge can be used in a concise form. IT skills: MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint (good), Photoshop CC (very good)
- Expert knowledge of programming with php, basic knowledge of image processing with Photoshop CC and very good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel 2016 will present you in detail.
- This is even more informative, but still clear: PHP programming language (for 5 years, daily use, website programming), Photoshop CC image processing (2 years, daily use, retouching and 3D graphics), office applications: Microsoft Office 365 (for 10 years) daily use, very good knowledge)
