Own homepage not available - what to do?
Having your own homepage often means a lot of work - especially if it is not available. In this article we show you what you can do about it.
Malfunction: The own homepage cannot be reached - causes
If your own homepage cannot be reached, this can have several reasons:
- Maybe your internet connection is faulty or not available. To do this, visit various well-known websites.
- Your browser may be working in offline mode. This can happen if the internet connection was temporarily interrupted. You can find this setting in Firefox by clicking on the three lines at the top right, then selecting "Developer tools" and removing the checkmark next to "Offline mode".
- To narrow the problem further, go to this page and enter the address of your website there. You will then find out whether the page is only accessible to you or not to everyone. This allows you to further narrow down the error.
Homepage not available for you only - incorrect settings
If the website is just not available for you, you can usually fix the problem yourself:
- There may be incorrect data in the browser cache that you should delete. In further articles we will show you how to clear the cache in Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
- An error in the configuration of the router can also block the connection to the Internet. Therefore, check all cable connections to your router and make sure that you have set it up correctly.
- If the DNS data is out of date, Windows also prevents access to the Internet. Therefore open the console with administrator rights (right click> Run as admin) and enter the command "ipconfig / flushdns". Press the [Enter] key and then enter the command "ipconfig / renew". This is how the DNS cache is refreshed and renewed.
- The firewall can of course also be responsible for the problem. Therefore, make sure that you have set them correctly. We'll show you how to add an exception in Windows Firewall.
Disruption to the provider - no access to your own homepage
If the website test reveals a general problem, the fault is mostly with the provider itself.
- For example, this can be a DNS problem with your provider. To do this, go to "Control Panel" and open the "Network and Sharing Center". Select your preferred connection here under "Connections" and click on "Properties". Under "Use the following DNS server names" enter the value "8.8.8.8" - this is the Google DNS server. Save with "OK".
- Or there is the simplest reason: The server is currently offline and therefore not accessible. Just try again later. If you cannot reach the website after a long time, contact the support.
