Find out your own SSID - how it works
This article shows you how to find out your own SSID (the name of your WiFi network).
Find out your own SSID
SSID is the abbreviation for "Service Set Identifier" and stands for the name of your WLAN network. How to find out the SSID:
- Taskbar: If you are currently connected to the network and the network symbol is in the lower right corner of the taskbar, you can easily find out the SSID. If you move the mouse over the symbol, the name of the network will be displayed.
- Control Panel: Open the Control Panel and select the categories "Network and Internet" and "Network and Sharing Center". If you click on the WLAN connection on the right, a small window opens. Here you can also see the SSID (see picture).
- Router: The name of the network is usually also on the back of the router, unless it has been changed. The SSID often bears the name of the router model.
- Router: If you have changed the SSID and cannot access it, connect it to the computer using a LAN cable. You can then access the user interface and read or change the SSID. We show you exactly how this works in this practical tip.
