Set up a WiFi hotspot with iPhone
If you set up a WiFi hotspot with the iPhone, you can use it, for example, to go online via your iPad or a laptop without a surf stick and router. Here we show you which settings you have to make on your smartphone for mobile Internet access.
Set up iPhone as a personal WiFi hotspot
Your iPhone's hotspot can be shared by several devices at the same time. To set this up and activate it, open the settings in your smartphone.
- In the settings you will find the entry "Personal hotspot".
- Turn on the hotspot.
- For security reasons, you should protect your WLAN with a password. To do this, click on the corresponding menu item.
- Enter the password on the keyboard and confirm it with a click on "Done".
- If you now search for available WLAN networks with a laptop, you will find your iPhone as a hotspot as you know it from a router, for example. You can now log in there with the previously set password and conveniently surf the Internet.
Internet tethering via Bluetooth or USB
You can also connect the iPhone to other devices via Bluetooth. However, the most secure connection to the Internet is established when you connect your iDevice to the laptop via USB. This also has the advantage that the battery of your smartphone is also charged.
WiFi sharing in iOS 11
- With iOS 11 comes a practical innovation: WiFi sharing. This allows you to share your home WiFi with guests without a password.
- A device with iOS 11 automatically detects when another iPhone or iPad with iOS 11 tries to log into the home Wi-Fi network.
- A message will appear and you can share the WiFi with the guest. A password is then no longer necessary.
