With various programs you can easily cut music together. No matter whether you want to create an audio book from individual stories, like to have a playlist in one piece or want to cut a song, for example. Here we present two very good freeware programs for audio editing:
Cut MP3s losslessly with MP3DirectCut
Sometimes it depends on the best quality: Because MP3DirectCut omits the conversion as an intermediate step, MP3 files can be separated and cut with this small tool without loss. Mp3DirectCut is available for free in our download area. Here's how it works:
- The prerequisite is that all MP3 files are in the same directory.
- In the "File" menu, select "Series functions ...".
- Click the button with the three dots at the top right, select the folder that contains the files you want to cut and then select "OK".
- If you do not want to cut all files together, select the desired files from the list. You can change the order using drag & drop.
- Remove the asterisk in the text field at the top next to the button with the three dots and activate the field "Merge - Name" below.
- Write the desired file name in the text field to the right and then click on Start. You may now have to confirm a message with "OK". The cut file is now in the folder that also contains the individual files.
Cut music together with the all-rounder Audacity
Audacity can do pretty much everything that has to do with editing music and can be expected from freeware. You can also download Audacity in our download area. With this freeware you can cut much more than tracks together. But that too is quite easy with Audacity:
- Select "File", then "Import" and "Audio ...". Then select the files you want to merge. You can select multiple files by holding down the [CTRL] key. Now each file opens in a separate track one below the other.
- Now leave the first track as it is and copy the other songs in the desired order to the end of the first song as follows: Click in the desired track and press [CTRL] + [C] to copy the entire audio track Now switch to the other track in which the opening file is open and place the cursor with a click on the audio track at the end of the piece. Then press [CTRL] + [V] to paste the copied piece at the end. Repeat for all remaining files.
- When you have added all the pieces to the starting piece and edited the result, select "File" and then "Export ...".
- Select file name, destination and possibly format and click "Save" to export the file in which the individual pieces are assembled.
With Audacity you can also mark only parts of an audio track with the cursor and then cut them together. You can find a small tutorial for the first steps with Audacity in our picture gallery.
