Disposable underwater cameras: a comparison
Disposable underwater cameras shoot photos of the large marine flora and fauna for little money. In comparison, the price of most models is particularly impressive - we present three models that can complement your photo album with a few great underwater pictures.
Disposable underwater camera: Fujifilm Quicksnap Marine 800
With the "Fujifilm Quicksnap Marine 800" you take perfect photos on the beach. The camera has a scratch-resistant housing and is waterproof up to 10 meters deep. The attached film has space for 27 unforgettable vacation pictures.
- The camera has a preset ISO value of 800 and an exposure time of 1 / 125s. That means: The pictures get a bit grainy, but you can snap them in sunny weather without thinking too much - your photos won't shake even under water.
- With dimensions of 7.3 x 13.3 x 4.2 cm and a weight of 170 grams, the mini camera fits in any beach bag.
- Unfortunately, the shots have a slight bluish tinge - a shortcoming that you can really expect with a camera for less than € 20.
- At the online retailer Amazon, the camera currently costs 12 euros.
Snap underwater pictures with Kodak Sport
The "Kodak Sport" does well on diving trips: the housing is impact-resistant and can withstand depths of up to 15m. With this camera you can also enrich your photo album with 27 underwater pictures.
- The preset ISO value for this camera is also 800 so that you can take sharp pictures under water.
- The "Kodak Sport" with 13.2 x 11.9 x 5.3 cm and 159 grams is also suitable for handbags and beach bags. Practical: The scope of delivery includes a small ribbon with which you can simply hang the camera around your wrist. This way you won't lose your camera during a dive and you always have it handy.
- Reviews of this Kodak model complain of a slight green tinge. Not uncommon for the price: You can get the camera from Amazon for as little as 14 euros.
Underwater pictures for bargain hunters: AgfaPhoto Le Box Ocean
The "AgfaPhoto Le Box Ocean" is the cheapest alternative among underwater disposable cameras - it withstands water depths of up to 3m, the housing is protected from sand. Here, too, the film is enough for 27 ocean shots.
- The preset ISO value for this camera is only 400: The images are not as grainy as a result, but generally somewhat darker.
- This disposable camera is unbeatably small at 6 x 4 x 4 cm and therefore even fits in the side pocket of some swimming trunks.
- You can get the "AgfaPhoto Le Box Ocean" in the Saturn electronics store for just 10 euros. At Amazon you can also buy the camera in a pack of five - that only costs you 37 euros.
Disposable underwater cameras: tips for the perfect photo
- Disposable cameras rely on good light, especially under water - so it's best to take photos outdoors in the sunshine. Pictures in the indoor pool quickly become too dark or "blurred".
- As is well known, the disposable cameras have no display. It is therefore all the more important to look closely through the viewfinder before pressing the trigger.
- You can have the fully shot film developed in a photo shop. But don't wait too long - it may take a few years before a film expires, but even the most beautiful vacation photos are quickly forgotten in everyday life.
The following generally applies to single-use underwater cameras: the price determines the quality. For professional pictures you should read our article "Taking photos under water - the best tips".
