End-to-end encryption: what is it? Easily explained
In WhatsApp, end-to-end encryption is used to protect the data. We explain to you exactly what this is in this practical tip.
End-to-end encryption - that's the reason
Various types of encryption can be used to ensure the security of messages in chats. The messenger service WhatsApp uses the so-called end-to-end encryption. This means the following:
- All messages, documents, locations, photos, videos, voice messages, status messages and calls can only be viewed by the respective sender and recipient.
- The provider, in this case WhatsApp, also has no access to this data and cannot view it.
- The data is saved on your phone, as soon as you send it, it is encrypted. Only the recipient can then decrypt and read them again on the cell phone.
- This encryption can also be used for e-mails and works the same in principle.
- Figuratively speaking, with end-to-end encryption, every message has a different lock. Only the recipient always has the right key to read the message.
