Energy saving lamps: what does the Kelvin number mean?
The Kelvin number indicates the "color temperature" for energy-saving lamps. Read exactly what this is all about in this article.
Kelvin number: the color temperature
The higher the Kelvin or color temperature, the colder the human eye perceives the light. With a low Kelvin number, however, the light appears significantly warmer to us. For orientation:
- The old light bulbs (100 watts) have a fairly warm color temperature of approx. 2, 800 Kelvin. An energy saving lamp should have a max. Have 2, 700 Kelvin to emit similarly warm light.
- Lamps with a color temperature between 3, 000 and 5, 000 Kelvin emit a rather neutral light that resembles an average fluorescent tube.
- A color temperature of over 5, 000 Kelvin is as cool as daylight.
