Energy-saving lamps: what does the lumen number mean?
You will always find a lumen indication on energy-saving lamps. In this practical tip, we explain exactly what it says.
Lumen number for energy saving lamp, LED and light bulb
- "Lumen" (lumen per watt) is the unit of measurement for luminous flux. This means all the light emitted by energy-saving lamps, light bulbs or LEDs.
- The more lumens a lamp has, the brighter it shines and the more electricity it consumes. LED bulbs and energy-saving lamps achieve higher lumen numbers than light bulbs with lower consumption.
- A classic 40 watt light bulb has 415 lumens. To achieve a comparable brightness with an energy-saving lamp, you need an energy-saving lamp with only 9 watts.
- The (rounded) lumen number can be found next to the wattage on the packaging of the energy-saving lamps (see picture).
