If you don't have an eBook reader at hand, you can also read your ePUBs in the browser. We'll show you how to retrofit the feature in all popular web browsers.
Open ePUB files in Chrome
With the free Chrome app "Simple EPUB Reader" you can read your ePUBs directly in the Google browser.
- The Chrome tool not only opens eBooks from other websites, but also ePUBs that are saved on your computer.
- Start the app by opening a new tab and clicking on the icon of the eReader in the "Apps" tab.
- Use the left half of the new window to import your own ePUBs. In the right half you can see all the books that were recently opened. Once you've selected a file, it will open in Chrome and you can start reading.
Open eBooks in the Firefox browser
The free "ePubReader for Firefox" is even more practical. The free addon integrates seamlessly into the Firefox browser:
- As soon as you find an ePUB file on the Internet, it will be opened directly. You do not have to worry about anything else.
- The addon also processes your locally saved eBooks: To do this, drag the desired files into the browser window. After a few seconds, the eBook will appear on your screen.
- Firefox now saves all called ePUBs in a library on your computer. You can access your virtual bookshelf via the new eBook icon in the menu bar.
Alternatively: view ePUBs in any browser
Users of other browsers can also enjoy eBooks thanks to the "MagicScroll" web app.
- To do this, open the "MagicScroll" website.
- Click the "Add A Book to Your Library" button at the top left and select the desired eBook on your computer.
- You can then start reading straight away.
