Retrofit eSATA connection on the PC - how it works
If you want to retrofit an eSATA connection on your computer, there are a few things to consider. We'll show you how it's done.
Retrofitting an eSATA connection on the PC - requirements
- To retrofit an eSATA connection, you only need an eSATA connector. These components are usually sold in combination with USB 3.0 connections.
- The eSATA connectors are actually compatible with all mainboards. However, it is advantageous if the PC has the PCI Express 2.0 standard. This is the only way to use the full speed.
- You can get an eSATA connector for just a few euros. For example, you can find a model from CSL on Amazon for around 10 euros.

Some computers only have one slot for external interfaces. If you bought a connector with additional USB 3.0 ports, you may have to replace it with the old one.
- Turn off your computer and remove the power cable. Then unscrew the cover.
- At the back of the computer you will now find free spaces for the connector. Unscrew the cover or carefully break it out.
- Insert the connector and screw it down. You can then close the computer again and start your computer.
