eSIM card vs. normal SIM: this is new
The classic SIM card is to be gradually replaced by the new eSIM card. You can find out what's new and what the differences between the cards are in this article.
eSIM cards vs. normal SIM - the differences
The first devices with an integrated eSIM card are expected to come onto the market as early as next year. For the time being, however, the devices will include both variants, the permanently integrated eSIM card and a slot for the conventional SIM card.
- The "e" in front of SIM stands for "embedded" and means something like "embedded". The striking difference between the eSIM card and the conventional SIM card is that the eSIM card is firmly integrated in the smartphone or tablet.
- The eSIM card is programmed from the outside, so changing the mobile operator is not a problem.
- If you want to access the phone number with a second device, you do not have to change the SIM card or request a second SIM card. You activate the second smartphone by connecting it to the device that is already activated via Bluetooth, for example, or by scanning a QR code.
Transfer contacts from SIM card to PC - how it works
The previous SIM card has the disadvantage that the format has changed over time. In the slots of the newer devices, for example, only SIM cards in nano format fit. If you still have a very old SIM card and a new device, you have to cut the SIM card into nano-SIM card format or apply for a new SIM card.
