Excel 2003: Find duplicate entries
Finding duplicate entries in Excel 2003 by hand is extremely tedious. With a filter, Excel does the work for you. We show you how it works.
Find duplicates in Excel 2003
The best way to find duplicate entries in long Excel lists is to use the duplicate filter:
- Select a field from the list in which you want to search for duplicate entries.
- Select the filter. You can get there using the menu: Data -> Filter -> Auto filter.
- At the top cell of your list you will now find a selection menu. There you can choose which list entry should be displayed.
- If this list entry is repeated, the double entries appear. If Excel lists only one result, there are no duplicates.
Automatically delete duplicate entries
With the special filter, you automatically remove duplicate entries from your Excel list:
- Select a cell in the list.
- You can access the special filter via the menu: Data -> Filter -> Special filter.
- In the special filter, select "Copy to another location" and "No duplicates". In the "Copy to" field, you specify where the list should be copied without duplicate entries.
