Excel: move area
The Excel function AREA MOVE is rather unknown. We explain to you exactly what it is. You can use the function to specify areas, but you can also use the totals function to add up to moved areas.
The AREA MOVE function in Excel
With the AREA MOVE function in Excel, you can specify an area depending on the position.
- To do this, click into a cell in Excel and enter the function in the following form in the "AREA.MOVE (reference; rows; columns; height; width)" field.
- Instead of reference, you specify the exit area. This can be a cell or a cell area such as "E8: E9".
- For the rows and columns, enter the number by which your area should be shifted. You can also enter minus values here.
- The values for height and width are particularly interesting if, for example, you calculate a sum using the AREAS.VERSCHIEBEN formula. We give you an example of this in the second section.
Sum example with the AREA MOVE function in Excel
In Excel, enter a formula in this form "SUM (MOVE RANGE (F6; 2; -3; 4, 2).
- If you enter a value of 4 for height and a value of 2 for width, this formula calculates the sum of all values in a 4-row and 2-column area.
- This area is 2 rows below and 3 columns to the left of cell F6.
