Excel diagram: insert 2 Y-axes
In this practical tip, you will learn how to insert 2 Y-axes in an Excel diagram. This is not possible with every diagram, but for the most common shapes, such as column and line diagrams, you can insert a second Y-axis. In our video you can see how it works.
Insert two Y axes in Excel chart
- Open Excel and mark your diagram.
- Click on "Insert" on "Column" and select, for example, a 2D column type.
- A diagram will be created for you. Click a bar value in the bar chart. After you have marked the red columns, for example, right-click on the marking. Select "Change Series Chart Type ...".
- In the window that opens, select "Line", for example, to display the red columns as a line.
- Mark the red line and right click on it again. Now select "Format data series ..."
- Under "Row options" you now place a checkmark next to "Secondary axis". Your diagram now has two Y axes.
