Excel: calculate third root - how it works
If you have to calculate the third root in Excel, you will unfortunately not find an easy formula for this. But the root calculation is actually quite simple - we will show you how it works.
Calculate third root in Excel
Excel uses the Root function only for calculating the square root. But that is not a problem, because the mathematical background of a root calculation is not complicated:
- The initial value for the root calculation is raised to the reciprocal of the desired root. This is a tough nut to crack for head computers, but an easy task for Excel.
- So to calculate the third root from a value in cell A1, enter the following formula: "= A1 ^ (1/3)".
- The roof symbol serves as an operator for the exponentiation. In this way you can also pull any root. You only need to exchange the value 3 for another. For example, a value of 2 gives you the square root.
- If you use the root calculation within a large formula, please put brackets around the expression. This prevents possible mistakes.
Tip: You can also use MS Excel on the go, for example Excel also works on the iPad.
