Excel: rename legend - how it works
When you create charts in Excel, the legend is automatically named after the values. This practical tip shows you how to rename the legend.
Excel: Rename legend entries
With Excel, the legend can be renamed in just a few steps. To do this, proceed as follows.
- Open your Excel document and click on your diagram.
- In the top bar you will find the "Diagram Tools". Click on the "Design" tab.
- In the "Data" group, click the "Select data" button.
- In the left window you will find the legend entries. Click on an entry and select "Edit".
- You can now rename the entry under "Row name".
Excel: Change horizontal axis labeling
If your values are not displayed as legend entries, but as horizontal axis labels, you have to do it differently.
- Open your Excel document and click on your diagram.
- In the top bar you will find the "Diagram Tools". Click on the "Design" tab.
- In the "Data" group, click the "Select data" button.
- In the right window you will find the "Horizontal axis labeling". Click on "Edit".
- Now enter your desired names or values for the legend. Separate multiple entries with a semicolon.
