Excel has a simple formula for calculating the logarithm of a number. We show you how to calculate the natural logarithm and the logarithm on any basis.
Calculate logarithm in Excel
You always start a formula in Excel with an equal sign. You can calculate the logarithm of a number using various formulas:
- Natural logarithm: Use the formula "= LN (number)" to calculate the natural logarithm, ie the logarithm to the base.
- Base 10 logarithm: You calculate the base 10 logarithm with the function "= LOG (number)".
- Logarithm to any base: With the formula "= LOG (number; base)" you can choose any base. You can calculate the logarithm to base 2 of the number 5, for example, with "= LOG (5; 2)".
- Instead of a number, you can also insert a cell reference in the logarithm. Use the formula "= LN (A4)" to calculate the natural logarithm of the number in cell A4.
