- Select one or more cells and right-click on them.
- In the menu select "Format cells".
- In the "Numbers" tab, select "Number" from the list.
- Set the desired number of decimal places and click "OK".
Rounding in Excel: Formula
If you want to decide yourself whether to round up or down, use a formula:
- Round up: With the function "= ROUND UP (number; number_digits)" you can round up a number to a desired number of decimal places. For example, if you enter "= ROUND UP (1, 47232; 2)", Excel will return 1, 48.
- Round down: With the function "= ROUND DOWN (number; number_digits)" you can round down a number to a desired number of decimal places. For example, if you enter "= ROUNDDOWN (2, 87923; 2)", Excel returns 2.87.
- Instead of a number, you can also specify a calculation or a cell reference. For example, "= ROUND DOWN (A2 / A3; 2)" returns the quotient from the numbers in cells A2 and A3 and rounds it down to two decimal places.
