Excel: # Fix name errors - how it works
Excel has a large number of error codes, each of which has its own meaning. A common mistake is the #name error, which is displayed as the result of a formula if something is wrong. We show you how to fix the problem in our practical tip.
# Fix name error in Excel
The #NAME! appears when Excel does not know a formula as entered. Check your formula for the following errors:
- Did you use the wrong math symbol? Use "*" for multiplication, "/" for division. Plus and minus remain + and -.
- Maybe you also mistyped the cell names. Check for errors in the formula like "AA1" instead of "A1" or "AA".
- Always calculate with cell names, not with terms: "= number of pieces * price" is not recognized by Excel.
- You should also check the function name: Remove typing errors such as "SUMMME" or "WNEN".
- Of course, Excel can only handle functions that the program knows. You can get an overview of all functions by clicking on the function symbol at the top left next to the input line.
