In this practical tip, we will show you how to split CSV files into columns in just a few steps.
Columns in CSV files - Here's how
Do you want to split a CSV file into columns? Below you will find step-by-step instructions that you can also follow in our picture gallery:
- Start Microsoft Excel and open the desired .csv file.
- Mark column "A", click on the tab "Data" and on the button "Text in columns".
- The text conversion wizard starts. Now select the file type that best describes your data. In our example we use "Separate".
- In step 2, select the delimiter and text qualifier. In our example we use ", " as a separator and {None} as a text qualifier.
- In step 3 you can select the data format of the columns. With the "Standard" option, the columns keep their date and number values. All other fields are converted to text. We use this option in our example.
- Click the "Finish" button to end the wizard. Your CSV file is now divided into columns.
