This guide shows you what you can do if Excel crashes.
Excel crashes: you can do that
- If Excel crashes, you should restart the program first and, if necessary, restore your documents that you previously edited. If it was a one-time crash, you can usually continue working with the program without any problems.
- If Excel repeatedly crashes, there is likely to be a software problem. In this case, first make sure that you have installed all the latest updates.
- Also check that you have installed all available Windows updates.
- Deactivate all add-ins in Excel and check whether the program no longer crashes afterwards.
- If Excel still crashes, uninstall the program using the Control Panel and reinstall the latest version on your computer.
- Before starting Excel, close all other programs that you do not need at the moment. Then start Excel in safe mode: To do this, hold down the [CTRL] key while opening the program.
- You should also check your PC for malware and other malware. It is best to use the free program Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
- If you still have problems with Excel crashes afterwards, report the incidents to Microsoft Office support and follow the instructions of the customer service.
