Excel: Convert text to web addresses
In Excel, you can use a formula to convert text into correct web addresses.
Convert text to URL-encoded text
Since web addresses may only contain certain characters (A to Z, 0 to 9 and some special characters), characters such as "Ö" or the colon must be expressed differently. With the formula "= URLCODIEREN (" Text ")" Excel does this for you.
- For example, enter = URLCODING ("// www.chip.de/") in the address line of Excel.
- After you press Enter, Excel encodes the link into a URL-encoded text. The result would be "http% 3A% 2F% 2Fwww.chip.de%".
Store a text with a web address
You can also link a text or a number to a link.
- Type text or a number in a cell, for example "Hello, I have a hyperlink in it."
- Go to "Insert" in the tab. In the menu you will find the "Hyperlink" button.
- If you would like to link to a website, select the item "Link to: file or website". Now enter the link under "Address:", for example //www.chip.de/.
- Confirm the address with "OK". The text is highlighted in blue and underlined. If you click on the text, the CHIP website opens.
